people are awesome

People rock. My friends rock. People I have never met before rock. There has been SO MUCH love shown to our little family in the last 2 months - it's just unreal. This is the latest - Team Ashley t shirts! It's so fun!! I love the design! My friends Brittany and Emily have been working on this for a while and surprised me with it yesterday! Their goal is for everyone to wear their shirts on the day I have surgery, which will likely be the first week in September. I love this idea and I hope we're able to get the 100 orders necessary for the company to agree to print them.

why brown ribbon?

On the day I found out I had rectal cancer, I had to look up what color my ribbon was going to be.

"It's not even a pretty color - dark blue." I told my husband. I guess I was hoping for purple? I knew pink is for the sexy cancer and was already taken. I was also realizing that colon/rectal cancer is an old man disease so purple was probably out of the question.

"Well it's butt cancer - it should be brown!" my husband said.

Apparently others with butt cancer agree, brown is the alternate color for colorectal cancer awareness!

"Oh, and if you are uncomfortable with me saying things like colon or rectal or colorectal or butt or diarrhea or blood or colostomy bag or puking or stool - you probably might want to move right along. I waited too long to talk to my doctor (or my husband for that matter, or, well anyone) because I was too embarrassed to talk about my butt problems and now all those words are going to be in my immediate future so if you can't handle it, it's ok, but I just gotta get over it because I didn't get a sexy cancer, I got butt cancer and with that comes all those fun words and it's probably about time I get over them."
