Wigs!

So I am done throwing my tantrum.

I think what upset me the most about menopause is the fact that I might turn into an angry monster that doesn't resemble me whatsoever. I just want to stay happy and positive and not ruin my children's childhoods. The swiftness of the hormone change makes the menopause symptoms more severe and I just am scared. That is the bottom line. I'm scared.

So anyway I am sitting at MD Anderson right now waiting for my first of 3 testing appointments today.

These were taken the first time we came to the facility. Matt has been at nearly every single visit, every test and he is determined to be at every radiation appointment. I keep telling him he doesn't need to worry about it but he is loyal and determined that I not be in this fight alone.

Shortly after I was diagnosed, my sweet client who is a breast cancer survivor brought me two of her wigs to try on. I may or may not have felt a surge of panic and nausea. I thanked her profusely then hid them away in a closet. I was just not ready to face the possibility of losing all my hair!

Well once I found out that I was going to keep my hair, it was wig time!

I sent the pic of me in the blonde wig to Matt and he didn't even recognize me! I don't think I will be going blonde anytime soon :)

  1. Hi Ashley! You don't know me, but I am in the same ward as Matt and Melissa. My name is Erin Jones. I am a nurse and I work on the general surgery floor over at Banner Desert aka the "butts and guts" floor. I care for a lot of people during their surgical treatment for colorectal cancer. I just wanted to see if I could recommend (or warn you) about some of the surgeons I work with. You probably have a great one, but I would love to help if I could! You can email me at erinrayjones at gmail. Good luck! Prayers for you and your family!

  4. Hey Ashley, you don't know us... friend of a friend type of thing. Hubs and I are on his 2nd trip to Houston for his esophageal/stomach cancer surgery. He did chemo and radiation at M.D. Anderson in Mesa, where we live. Nobody warned us about "chemo brain". The weeks after treatments he would forget to eat, drink, meds. He gave away money and offered to pay for all kinds of crazy stuff. I had to ask the neighbors to ignore his generosity. He became angry with me for treating him like a baby, but you definitely need someone to double check your decisions. Don't be afraid to ask for help! I'm sure there are tons of people who want to help you, just let them :-) Best wishes, Becky Johnson

  6. Hi Ashley. Brynn texted me and told me about the cancer and your blog. First, I love that you have called this your "butt cancer blog." But more importantly, I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I have every confidence that you will kick butt cancer's butt, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I always admired your bubbly personality and incredible determination. I am certain that both of those traits will serve you well throughout all of this. Stay strong, and keep blogging.
